Meet Sam
My name is Sam Maranganji; I’m 34 years old and I’m an Aboriginal man. Binda and I have known each other pretty much all our lives and been married for 15 years. We have three kids that are growing up fast.
We want to stay connected to country while raising our kids – we want them to know the traditional ways and their Mob. It’s hard on the Gold Coast but my cousin got me a job in construction so there’s plenty of work here.
Binda and I have our good times and bad times. I didn’t have it great growing up and I want to do things differently as a dad and husband, but sometimes I get tested and I lose my shit. I don’t mean to; I just can’t help it, but I’ll tell ya, it’s nothing in comparison to what I’ve had.
It’s hard you know, being a man these days, trying to stay true to culture, working full time and trying to provide for the wife and kids. Being a bricky’s labourer is full on. Binda works too but it’s different.
