I arrive at the refuge

After answering dozens of personal questions, the woman on the other end of the phone says she has a vacancy for me at a refuge about two hours away.

I have to take two buses and a train; my head is pounding and my throat is sore after Kai strangled me. All I want is a cool drink of water, but I’ll have to wait until I get to the refuge as I have no money.

After being there for a couple of days, things start to feel clearer. But I miss Kai. I start to blame myself for making him angry. I tell myself that he was just worried about me; I should have told him what I was doing.

He deserves a second chance. After all, he’s nowhere near as bad as Joe. I need to be more careful and make sure Kai doesn’t have any reason to feel jealous.
