Lana

Everything seemed perfect when I came back, and for the first few weeks it felt like a fairy tale.

But then, as I leave to go to the shop and buy some milk, Kai tells me to buy him some cigarettes. I explain I don’t have enough money and that he’ll need to wait until I get my Centrelink pension.

Kai says I’m lying and tries to yank my purse from my hand while accusing me of spending money on other men. He snarls “lying bitch” before punching me in the face. I let go of my purse and as I stumble, he pushes me over. I plead for him to stop. Kai laughs as I fall, calling me “clumsy”.

Kai goes through my purse and takes out what money I have, including the rent money. He calls me a stupid cow and accuses me of hiding money from him.

He tells me he’s going out and demands that there’s food on the table for him when he gets back.
